Dear knowledgeable and wisefriends,
these new requirements mean a vast waste of talent and knowledge and skills and good LC's
In my neck of the world the RNbased IBCLCs are not definitely the best IBCLCs (putting it mildly and diplomatic). Of course in both RNbased and non-RNbased IBCLCs are the good, the bad and the ugly, and I will not be heard declaring RNbased IBCLCs to be not good, but to be a good or exellent IBCLC RN or MD or other (para)medic credentials are not a requirement and they might even, sometimes stand in the way of being exellent as an IBCLC.
Now, don't you'll start shouting and shooting at me, I'm talking numbers here, not individuals!
Talking persons: I get, on a quite regular basis, clients who have been seen/treated by multiple RN/MD/HCP-based LCs with no or even somtimes negative results, and I am in many cases quite able to help them out, for instance by spotting overlooked oral variations, leading away from overdiagnosed and overtreated thush and things like that. Just did one of those this morning and will tend to another one later this day.
Warmly,
Gonneke, IBCLC in PP (based upon Kindergarten/groundschoolteacher and 25 years of LLLL) and LC lecturer in southern Netherlands
