I recently had a mother whose baby had 11 stools on day two! She then went on to have the baby have plenty of stools, at least 6 per day, and we were so surprised when this little guy , at 14 days, had only gained 4.5 oz in 14 days. Frequent stooling is a good indicator that babies "might' be thriving, but I have now learned that it is not a given, and certainly not a guarantee of good and plentiful milk transfer.
Kindly, Kathleen Bruce RN IBCLC, who is always learning new things.
