I'll reply to the list, too, because there hasn't been many responses yet.
No research here, just my experience.

My 3rd child, when 9 months became very sick, was put on antibiotics, to
which he was allergic (got that 'ceclor rash - but I thought he had german
measles).  Discontinued any medicine when we discovered it was a cold sore
in his mouth.  That was roughly 3-4 days after this all started.

I have had cold sores all my life around my mouth, never on breast.  I
didn't develop any signs or issues there whatsoever then, up to now.  That
was almost 10 years ago.

Poor baby was so sick (primary outbreaks are brutal!) but never had a
nursing strike during it.  I was impressed :-)  He was also the child
who(not many months later) would nurse for an hour straight while I had the
Norwalk virus.  It hit everyone in the house except him.  He was even
vomitted on by an older brother - but my Luke never got sick.  I love
breastmilk :-))
