Do the doctors and neos use the AAP Bilitool algorithm? It is
extremely helpful and useful and gives a recommendation re followup
and whether or not to initiate phototherapy at a certain number of
hours old and bili levels. It also breaks it down to well babies or
premies I believe not less than 35 wks.
Our hospital nursery also purchased the Bilicheck transcutaneous
bilimeter which we use before discharge on all babies, and in our
breastfeeding followup clinic and as needed. Many fewer babies need
lab draws and the levels can be checked as often as needed.
