Nina, I think you are having a nightmare, in which you wake up in 2006, and
read the first draft of the IBLCE Scope of Practice, which -- amongst other
things -- says IBCLCs may not contradict the primary health care provider.
If you keep dreaming, you will watch the IBCLC profession rage, howl and
bay at the moon (and IBLCE) about it.
Pinch yourself awake, now, and go read the 2008 version
http://www.iblce.org/upload/downloads/ScopeOfPractice.pdf
which was produced after IBLCE agreed to a collaborative Task Force with
ILCA to draft a better Scope of Practice for IBCLCs ... though the final
copy was IBLCE's alone. Hmm. Imagine that. Seeking input and advice,
first, in a joint effort ... ending with a better result. What a notion.
You'll find that the Scope of Practice now -- much more appropriately --
describes the IBCLC's duty is to **inform** other HCPs about BF and human
lactation.
