The time for comment on the new Code of Professional Conduct for IBCLC's is
running out Wednesday, September 7th! Here are my comments, FWIW.
>>Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the updated definition of
my chosen profession! My comments:
"The Code" is not workable in this context, because it will be confused with
The Code of Ethics or The International Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk
Substitutes. I suggest "the CPC" as the appropriate abbreviation.
A provision that every IBCLC shall "adhere to those provisions of the
International Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes and subsequent
resolutions which pertain to health workers" MUST be included under
Principle 1, not under the Preamble as "encouraged" practice. TO FAIL TO
HOLD THE INTERNATIONAL CODE OF MARKETING OF BREAST-MILK SUBSTITUTES AS A
PROFESSIONAL IMPERATIVE PRESENTS A GRAVE DANGER TO INFANTS AND TO THE IBCLC
PROFESSION.
1.1 "Fulfill professional commitments by working with mothers to meet their
breastfeeding goals" might be more simply written as "Work with mothers to
meet their breastfeeding goals."
1.2 "evidence based, comprehensive, and up to date" might be more clearly
stated as "comprehensive, and based on current professional evidence." <<
