Hello Wise Ones,

Permission to post. I'm helping a mother of a 4 month old with multiple severe IgE mediated food allergies, confirmed by skin prick testing, blood test (Immunocap) & has had obvious reactions (even hives!) to foods via mom's milk. Mom was partially breastfeeding (2-4x/day & pumping 2x/day) but primarily feeding an extensively hydrolyzed formula due to lack of support from family & health care providers. Mom has just learned the baby is very allergic to rice (via skin prick). She has eliminated rice from her diet, seen marked improvements in the baby & is now very motivated to rebuild her supply. Mom herself is allergic to corn & wheat (IgE mediated, only diagnosed a couple of months ago, only recently eliminated from her diet). She trialed fenugreek & the baby reacted to it. Mom wants to know if domperidone would be a viable option for her. So I have two questions:

1) Has anyone else seen Domperidone used in a mother of a very allergic baby? What were the results?

2) What is the source of Domperidone? Does it typically contain common allergens? She is looking at purchasing from (or perhaps already has) In House Pharmacy.

Mom is already nursing more often, wearing baby skin to skin as much as possible, increased pumping to a min of Q3 hours & just ordered an SNS to do any supplementing at breast. Mom has been taking pancreatic enzymes, probiotics & taking other measures to heal her own gut.

Obviously there is a lot going on with this dyad. Mom is now very motivated to get back to exclusive bf if possible BUT she is also now working full time. She would really like the extra boost from the Domperidone if it would be safe for herself & her baby.

Thanks for your input,
