Hi,
We have a local compounding pharmacy that has decided to make Domperidone
locally. This is wonderful, but has come with some criticism by our local
OB/GYNs. One group met at a staff meeting and agreed to NOT prescribe it as
a group because it is not FDA approved, and that they would be liable in the
event the medication caused harm to a mom. Another physician today told a
patient that I should not even be telling our patients about the drug.
What do others on this list do about this dilemma? My understanding is that
it is NOT illegal to discuss this medication and to refer patients to
physicians when it is available by prescription. Please update me on what I
am allowed or not allowed to say as an LC regarding Domperidone these days.
Thank you!
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
