Isabella, block feeding is a useful technique that really can temper
someone's production and the overwhelming MER that can go with it.
The mother feeds on one side only within a frame of time.....the
length of time varies, but it could start at 3-4 hours. Every time
the baby comes to the breast in that period, it is the same breast.
Then after that time, the other breast is used.
Any feelings of over-fullness on the unused side usually go after a
while, but in the meantime, gentle hand expression if necessary,
minimally taking off milk, deals with it.
Some very generous producers have to extend that 3-4 hours to 5,6 or
even more before the problem resolves.
