Her abscess was never drained. When I saw her, it was not yet determined for sure that she had an abscess. She had seen her OB and was advised to take the augmentin and then go back to the physician in three days. I recommended gentle massage, breast-hanging-down positions for nursing and to use warm salt water compresses before feeding the baby to release any plug that might be in her breast. That evening, a hole opened up in her breast and pus began to drain. When she went back to the doctor, used the swab to attempt to open the hole bigger and recommended that she continue with the warm salt water compresses and keep squeezing out the pus.
