hi michelle,
i am a homebirth midwife as well as a home based private practice lc and i use my hanging (fish) scale for basic baby weighing. it is, however, unfortunately not sensitive enough for pre/post feed weights. i have a local parenting resource center where i can rent a medela scale for pre/post weights if needed for a client, and i am seriously considering finally spending the money and investing in my own scale for this purpose. but the hanging scale does just fine for most basic things and you can find a light weight digital one that goes up to 40lbs for $12 at online fishing stores, then you just need to make a sling, so it think it's a good option.
take care,
ami burnham lm, rn, ibclc
