all our newborn daughters said what I heard to be "leh leh leh" which is almost exactly the same tongue position as the "neh" she shows.. don't remember if it turned into "neh" or not but they cried that way whenever they were hungry in those early weeks.. I don't think she's batty either.. too bad the youtube video no longer available but that's probably because it was a segment from an Oprah show.
I remember learning early on as a parent that there was a different cry for different needs.. just didn't know how universal it was/is... fascinating.
Information like this could prove to be so much more useful than any other parenting technique.. I noted that she said these "words" are most distinguishable before the infant is in full blown crying - which just emphasizes the importance of teaching parents to respond to the early cues babies give them.
I wonder if anyone on the list has the dvds or books..
