Hi. A mom called me and stated she has shingles. Her baby is 7 months old and breastfeeding with some solids. She has a rash on her right side which includes her right breast. It is close to the nipple. She is only breastfeeding on the left right now, although she was breastfeeding on the right with the rash until she was diagnosed with shingles. Should she throw away the milk from the breast with the rash since the breast shield does come in contact with the rash? Is it okay to continue breastfeeding as long as baby is not in contact with the rash? Mom does not want to take the antiviral med. Would taking the antiviral help? Thanks for your comments!
