There are a few rare genetic disorders (Schwachman-Diamond syndrome is 
one) that cause frequent large stools, but usually the stools are frothy 
or greasy (steatorrhea). Is there anything unusual about the baby? Is 
growth good? Does the baby have dry or scaly skin? Slightly unusual fingers?
Presentation of genetic disorders is often different in breastfed 
infants and artificially fed infants. BF babies are often diagnosed 
later because they don't have the infections that are typical of formula 
fed children with Schwachman or cystic fibrosis, another cause of fatty 
stools. The slow growth or failure to thrive is often blamed on 
breastfeeding, and no one looks for a disorder until other symptoms appear.
