The lactation consultant at my facility would like to know if it is acceptable to clean breast milk pump parts in hand wash sinks in patient rooms and common NICU hand wash sinks after use? Pump parts are cleaned by mothers. We have allowed this practice for years but are now considering if that is the best place to wash them. Can members reply with what they do?

Thanks,
Shirley Hamill, RN, BSN, IBCLC
