Sounds like your hospital needs a yearly BF course when the new residents 
arrive :-)  Or maybe have them do the course on AAP site and prove that they 
took it.  Sounds like the nurses need an update too.  Maybe your need a 
hierarcy that residents and/or nurses need to ask before giving any formula. 
We all know that playing fast and loose with formula is one of the most 
important causes of BF failure.  1.  Being given by hospital implies that 
formula is fine.  2. Being given tells mom that "es, you do NOT have enough 
to sustain your baby" wrecking her confidence early on.
Achieving Baby Ftriendly is not a one time and done deal as you are 
observing.  It is an ongoing process of updating with new info (like laid 
back nursing or how to express milk) and being sure that new people on the 
staff have adequate training in BF.  Pat in SNJ, USA
