I knew I'd get roasted for that one!

Fair enough. I made no claim to nutritional or medical expertise.

To clarify, my suggestion was geared toward rehydrating the *mother*, not
the baby. Baby will rehydrate just fine on breastmilk. My point in making
the suggestion for Gatorade was to give the mother something that she would
actually DRINK. It has to be tolerable, or it won't be taken.

All I know is what my own health care professionals told me and what
actually worked. I may not have been 'medically dehydrated', but it was
serious (dry mouth, dry body parts, headache, dizziness, disorientation -
not a result of illness). I could NOT tolerate the packets and didn't know
about the homemade solution, though I suspect drinking anything flavoured
like salt - no matter how much sweetness is added to cover it - would not
have worked for me and would not work for anyone else senstitive to flavours
and textures.
