He, Susan... listen to this one...
I was about to register for a conference on crying babies, when the invitation showed a baby with a bottle!
Rubbish arguments were used to answer my question why the bottle needed to be there.
“Bottlefeeding moms also want to be on nice pictures with their babies.”
Yes, of course, but you don’t need to use a bottle to achieve that.
I asked whether the conference would be free of commercial interest.
“Yes, really independent from industry, only Pampers was a sponsor last time.”
Right... so NOT independent then...
Came the next remark, that made me tremble and made my heart pounce: “Maybe this year Nestle will be our sponsor.”
MY GOODNESS! Nestle?!?! For a conference on crying babies?!?!
I replied with all kinds of explanations on several topics and how I would withdraw if Nestle were to become a sponsor, considering their criminal practices worldwide.
Silence for over a week...
Then an e-mail: “Thank your for pointing out that more carefulness is needed when chosing photos. As for the sponsoring: we did some studying and found out that Nestle is indeed not a suitable sponsor. Thank you for pointing that out to us.”
So, is that a good result so far, or what?! I’m really proud! It’s an important international conference with many well-known researchers.
I would like to know if *they* knew about these plans... will dive into that later on and have some further discussions with the organizers!

Bye,

Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands
