I went to nursing school at UNC-Chapel Hill, NC and graduated in 1973. While a nursing student, two La Leche League Leaders came and spoke to our class about breastfeeding. They gave an inspirational talk. I was sold! Our instructors told us that they were experts in breastfeeding. When my first child was born in 1976, the pharmacist at the hospital where I worked told me to be sure and call LLL if I had any breastfeeding problems because they would have the right answers for me. Not all medical providers felt LLL was just a group of granola eating hippie types!
