The AAP list both morphine and methadone as approved for use in breastfeeding mothers. The link is here but it should be noted that this policy was retired in August of 2010 and I can't locate the newest policy statement on specific meds and bfing just now. If the physician chooses to change her medication and she is committed to nursing you may simply provide her the AAP statement as well as Dr Hale's info to discuss with her pediatrican (not her care provider, but baby's!) I would probably also provide info on any specific drugs that she may be at risk of relapsing into to further dissuade her from drug use. My two cents.
