Dear Lactnet Community:
It has been a very long time since I have been active in the lactation community. Currently, I attend school at the University of Illinois College of Nursing (in the nurse-midwifery program), and I work as a L&D RN.
I was wondering if there has been a termed defined for skin to skin care during the transitional period in the first hour after birth for the healthy newborn. I feel a lot of RNs don't know how to provide this care well, and I would like to eventually develop a teaching tool for the staff L&D RN (unless you could point me to one). I am currently doing a concept analysis, but I am having trouble pinpointing the concept to analyze. I feel kangaroo care is associated with preemie research; skin to skin care can denote anytime during the newborn period.
If anyone can point me in the correct direction or has any ideas, please send me a private message at [log in to unmask]
