Hooly dooley, and they have had TV news coverage. It's about people wanting
to give of themselves and not just to give money. A good intention with not
great outcomes. So frustrating. Anyone with ties to Rotary? Thankfully large
tins of formula simply won't fit in shoe boxes.
Oh and I should have added to my previous post that when I compared this
flooding to previous emergencies in resource rich contexts I meant natural
emergencies because of course Europe has had war in the Balkans as has
Lebanon and they dwarf this situation in scale.

Unfortunately there are also misguided organisations starting to collect
new goods from people in the community for "gift" packs, including
formula and bottles, despite the fact that charities on the ground have
clearly and repeatedly said that money is the only appropriate donation
right now. Even aside from the issues with scattershot formula and
bottle distribution, it makes particularly little sense in the
Australian context to spend twenty bucks on new goods that may be
useless and then ship them all the way from South Australia or Western
Australia to Queensland, instead of donating the cash directly.
