Again, not a commercial :-) But Dr Carol Wagner has a new book out called
New Insights into Vitamin D During Pregnancy and Lactation. ( available from
Hale Publishing.) It is very well referenced and makes a very interesting
read. She says prior to 2004 "normal" of 25(OH)D was 15-80 ng/mL (37.5-200
nmol/L.
Since then the lower level has been revised to 25 ng/mL (62.5 nmol/L) She
also says that they have not found toxicity in levels up to 100ng/mL. Big
discussion on whether or not you live in a sun-rich envirnoment or not too.
(Winter in Norway-Not :-)
I had mine checked about a year and half ago after hearing Dr Wagner speak.
Mine was 7 :-( I took 50,000 units weekly for 8 weeks. Have done this
series 3 times in 1 1/2 years, plus 2000 units daily and I'm all the way up
to 27. I don't get much sun :-( I'm not sure if I could handle cod liver
oil tho :-(
Vitamin D deficiency is also being connected to all sorts of other problems.
It's the newest cure-all, but I do think we need to at least have normal
levels and read research carefully. Pat in SNJ (gray, cloudy and cold
today)
