Here is what happened to me today. A baby with 10% weight loss but BF well with more voids and stools than one could count on day 2. Peds recommened EBM or formula supplements after every other feed and recommended she start to pump. All good until....the RN comes in a says" your baby is starving, you need to feed him". Now mom is upset, FOB is upset and mil is thinking she is starving the grandbaby. Mom does not want to use formula, dad gets mad at her as he sees this as a ris. Buys her a so-so double breastpump after I 1) recommended hospital pump and 2)then when she said she really wanted to buy one, I recommend a quality purchase pump. MIL wanted to know how we could be sure how much the baby was getting. Mom pumped and got 2ml colostrum and dad was then convinced she was indeed starving him. I wanted to bang my head against the wall and then politely throttle my co-worker. I shared with her all this STUFF happening now with this family and she still didn't feel that was she said was wrong. She meant it to mean that he was hungry at the moment as he was rooting and that she should feed him.
Big sigh....
