I am in private practice. I will weigh a baby depending on the circumstances.
If the baby is not feeding well and not being monitored closely by a midwife or doctor then I will get a naked weight so that I have a starting point to compare to when I see them again.
I personally feel that while a weight is not the only way to assess how a baby is doing it can be an important piece of the puzzle.
I will also weigh a baby if the parents are just curious and want to know the weight.
I have found weighing a very useful tool when transitioning a baby back to the breast or if I am helping a mum increase her milk supply and reducing supplementation.
That being said, there are plenty of visits where I don't weigh the baby at all.
