Marsha,
I too am flabbergasted by the loyalty being shown to any commercial
identity- especially one behaving badly. And in the idea that it only
matters what is happening in the country in question (for some time Medela
was using this argument with ABA in Australia- told some people that Medela
in the US was a separate company...)
Some observations with the new bottle teat- some have already expressed to
me that it's wonderful to have a teat that has been produced with good
research- only problem is that there is no indication that there has been
any research on this teat. LOOK for the slight of hand in marketing- all is
not what they would like you to think.
Karleen

Subject: Medela and the Code

The Code is an international document that covers all countries. If a
company violates the Code in one country then that company is not meeting
its obligations under the Code--period. It does not matter if Code
parameters are met in one country, as the Code remains violated in others. I
am always struck by the loyalty I see to Code violating companies. Take a
look at how Medela's new nipple is being marketed:
www.medela.com/IW/dms/global/.../pdfs/calma_mothers_en_low.pdf.

While Medela may adhere to the Code in New Zealand, it certainly does not in
many other countries, making it a company who does not meet its obligations
under the Code.
