Subject: Left breast decreased function
Primip gave birth to an 8lb. 3 oz. boy on 5-18-11. Uneventful vaginal birth. Mother is 27 yrs. old, noted breast swelling 4th day in both breasts. Due to sore nipples started pumping & bottle feeding breastmik. From the beginning noted decreased milk supply from left breast. Same stimulation given to both breasts by medela double electric pump q 3-5 hrs. Getting about 4 oz. from right & 1 oz from left breast. There is no history of trauma or medication use, breasts were same size. Symmetrical breast changes during pregnancy & early post partum during primary engorgement stage. Had her pump left breast twice as much for 3 days & no noted changes. Mom to come in so I can observe pumping & make sure correct flange size is being used. Today she is 20 days postpartum. Presently her left breast is notably smaller that right. Suggestions please.
