The visits are free, here's our story:
The hospital hired me to start a bf program. I was part time. Our
hospital is one in a 7 or 8 hospital system with a Foundation that
raises funds and accepts donations, and then grants monies to worthy
projects.
I wrote a grant proposal and presented it to the Board (mostly men in
suits -- fun!) and it was accepted. The BF Center was funded for 1 yr
(salary, startup costs such as scale, desk, computer, file cabinet,
books, etc) and the hospital had to agree to take over the program
funding after 1 yr. They agreed.
One FTE position (full time equivalent) is now paid out of the
Education dept budget. That salary is the main expense. I jobshare
with another person we cover 5 days per week. The pediatricians really
like the program and support it.
