I have to agree with Laura who wrote about the expense of being certified.
Conferences are expensive, rarely find any free or minimal cost conferences
because of our ethics, and most of the time have to travel and spend the
night. I have never been reimbursed for any meetings or conferences as many
other colleagues that work in hospitals. In the 5 year period that I am
preparing for the exam, I still go to the conferences to update my
education, pay for the CERP's but don't need them, but then pay the exam
fee. No organization can exist without funds- it is what it is. All of this
to work at a place that has little respect for my certification and
knowledge. Good thing I love what I do and the mothers and babies! Thank
You- I feel better now.
