Other than from La Leche League, where baby-led weaning and a similar
approach to solids have been encouraged since 1955, I've never heard the
term baby-led weaning from any Canadian health professionals. Ditto with
solids recommendations.
Cheers to the UK!

Subject: Baby Led Weaning
I do not know if the concept of Baby Led WEaning has made it across to
your countries, but it has a big following here in the UK.
There is a forthcoming paper on this, which will be of interest to anyone
interested in the topic of the introduction of solid foods to babies.

Is baby-led weaning feasible? When do babies first reach out for and eat
finger foods?
Wright CM, Cameron K, Tsiaka M, Parkinson KN.
I believe the journal will have something more on this in the same issue,
but it is not online yet.
In the UK our official recommendations are not so dissimilar, as they
emphasise using healthy family foods and giving children actual chunks of
food from the start, at around 6 months.
You can read what is given to parents in the Birth to Five book -- chapter
3 is on the introduction of solids (we are trying to abaondon the 'w'
word):

No idea how this compares to info in your countries, you may be streets
ahead of us!
