Thank you all who replied. After the 3rd time that the infant desated at the breast the NICU doctors would not allow her to breastfeed anymore. While in the NICU I was able to get the nutrionist to come and do an oral motor evaluation. Guess what - no problems when she breastfeed. I wasn't there during any of the feedings ( i just heard about what happened after the fact) so I don't know if maybe it was the way the mother was holding. I was told by the nutrionist that mother said she was holding in a football hold but felt very uncomfortable holding the infant that way - So, it makes us wonder if maybe the mother was holding the infant in a position that was blocking off her airflow (chin down on chest).
