Yes, we do.

Links:

http://www.nhs.uk/Planners/breastfeeding/Pages/breastfeeding.aspx
- this is aimed at the general public

http://www.breastfeeding.nhs.uk/en/docs/FINAL_QA.pdf - these are
'recommendations' which every healthcare professional is supposed to
be aware of/follow.

There is a lot of NHS stuff on breastfeeding, on the web and in
print. Not all of it is cosnsistent or high quality, but the
'recommendations' are OK, IMO. Thing is, you can recommend something,
but there is no compulsion to adopt it - of course this can be a good
thing, as official recommendations are not always based on good
evidence and may be subject to other influences (just as we have seen
in our discussion on co-sleeping).

There is continued undermining of the 'exclusive breastfeeding to 6
mths' by healthcare professionals who tell mothers 'they are changing
the guidelines' or 'these guidelines have gone under review' or
'these guidelines have changed' or '4mths is better than 6 mths' -
this seems to be coming from training courses where verbal briefing
against the guidelines is common.

Hope this helps, Karleen.
