I seem to remember that a Prof. Katz, pediatrician from U.Tel Aviv published
something a couple of years ago in the International Journal of Allergies
claiming that if infants are exposed to peanuts in the first year they will
be less allergic in later life.
The study compared British infants whose parents avoided peanuts because of
the risk of allergies with Israeli babies whose first "snack" is often the
local peanut product Bamba.
Just a few teeny weeny little problems here which defy credibility.
1) Bamba is produced by Osem which is owned by Nestle
2) Nobody in their right mind would give Bamba to a baby under one year for
fear of choking
3) The researcher and his cohort were funded by the American Peanut Board
4) The same prof. published a study more recently in the same journal
showing that early exposure to cows milk prevents allergies later on. This
study was funded by the Israeli Dairy Board.
On a different posting on the shortage of formula for Hassidic Jews in New
York: The Materna company whose formula they are trying to get imported
from Israel is also owned by Nestle.
