Do you think it is "better" to send a
baby home nursing with a shield rather than sending a baby home not latching or nursing
at all?
Yes I do. The mother is pumping and supplementing anyway, might as well let mom/baby practice positioning with some feeding at the breast too.
I have heard Barbara W.C say at a conference that it is more important to fit baby's mouth than the size of the mother's nipple. I use a lot of 20mm shields, a few 16mm and a few 24mm.
