One of the great things about our field is the lifelong learning, that there
is always something new to learn. We sometimes learn the best lessons from
the mothers we assist, by watching, listening and working with them to
resolve or alleviate something that we hadn't encountered before. This is
not to diminish the wonderful learning opportunities through educational
events, such as conferences and in-services, where we expect to learn. What
I'm saying is that the unexpected learning, through stretching our
experience is valuable, too.
With the year drawing to a close, this might be the time for each of us to
reflect on the question: "What have you learnt this year?"
