Hello,
Sadly we just found out that our 35 weekers are now going to be cared for in our NICU which is one floor up from our mother baby floor. Us mother baby Rn's are very concerned about how this will impact our ability to do the prolonged skin to skin and breastfeeding. Who will bring the baby down from the NICU to the mom if she is unable to go upstairs due to c/s etc and then will the NICU RN stay or can the MB RN and NICU RN work as a team with the infant and mom?? We were told that it is a DPH policy that 35 weekers must be cared for in a level 2 or above nursery and we only have a normal newborn nursery and a level 3 NICU. They told us that this policy has been in place for over 5 years and we've been in non compliance with this thus the change.
Any wisdom would be much appreciated :) Thank you, ginny combs RN, IBCLC
