Hi Adriana, I would say a couple of things first: It is not that critical to
use the thawed breastmilk w/i 24 or 26 hrs, say, when you are dealing with
well babies. Second, keep it simple for the mother. Oh, and one more thing,
these guidelines should have a margin of safety built in, so if the milk
was, say, used w/i 28 hrs, for a well baby, I would not see a problem.
Therefore, I would counsel a mother about an easy way to thaw the milk. If
she usually thawed it relatively quickly in warm water, then use w/i 24 hrs
of that moment. If she thawed it more slowly in the refrigerator, it would
take maybe 2 hrs (unless it was a very large container of ebm, which would
not be practical), so allow the 2 hrs thaw time, and then go another 24 hrs.
(My opinion). However, I would not worry about 2 hrs either way.
