This is one of those "For want of a nail" stories.
If I had not:
- always been an independent thinker
- been asked to bottle feed a friend's baby and found it to be an
unnervingly strange experience
- had a workmate who shared her experiences of helping mothers breastfeed
as a NCT counselllor
- been introduced to a neighbour who, it was rumoured, had nursed her son
for 18 months (gasp!)
- attended La Leche League meetings while I was pregnant with baby #1
- become a La Leche League Leader
- met one of the first IBCLCs, who asked me why I had not yet taken the
exam
- become an IBCLC and met Diana West when we were presenting at the same
conference
Then:
- I may never have had the information or skills necessary to help my DIL
breastfeed my grandchildren.
You never know what seeds you are planting when you smile at a mother who is
sitting in a park nursing her baby!
