Norma,
It is very sad, but I am so glad my parents did what they could. Sharing my
family was a very powerful experience for me and has impacted my life
forever...
I think it might be easier when you consider that if attachment parents
don't participate, what does that leave?
But, it does explain why even those children who do find good, loving
foster homes - have a difficult experience and continue to ffeel isolated.
I do now have an adopted sister who rejoined my family in 1991, after being
in our home as a foster in 1978-80.
Good parenting also has positive ramifications, and some children do find
loving families again - on their own...

I just read Laura's list of some of the restrictions put upon foster
parents.
The tragedy is that those of us who practice attachment parenting with our
biological children - giving them a normal, healthy upbringing - would
find it all but impossible to bring a foster child into their home.
How can I hug my biological child while my foster child looks on with
hungry eyes?
How can I respond to my biological child's need for comfort in the night
but ignore the same needs in my foster child?
I am horrified!
No wonder foster children have the highest school drop-out rates.
They are emotionally deprived, not allowed to form attachments, and then
we expect them to raise healthy families of their own?
I do not have the words to express how strongly I feel about this. How
could I have lived so long and not known what was happening all around me?
What can we, who are not social workers or politicians, do to stop this abuse
of power by foster agencies? What strategies are most effective in
educating them about raising emotionally healthy children?
