As to the second mom:
I would refer her for saliva testing and bio-identical hormones. She made need pregnenalone, rather than or in addition
to progesterone. I would also be looking at her diet and inflammation.
I have worked with moms who have rebuilt supply at 3mos and even much later. Which herbs is she using?

Subject: Increase supply after 3.5 months on the mini-pill?
Hi All,
I am working with a mom who has suffered a low milk supply and subsequently
baby struggling to gain appropriate weight. After much research and
calculating on my part it is clear that the baby's issue with weight gain
started within a week or so of her starting the mini-pill (started at 6 wks
pp). She had the same issue with her first son also (did those calculations
too and the timing is too close to be a coincidence). With baby #2 I have
ruled out any structural issues or tongue-tie.
My question to you is this: After 3.5 months on the mini-pill (progesterone
only) can she actually get her supply back up to 100%? She is doing what
she needs to be: pumping, herbs and LOTS of nursing. We have discussed
domperidone. But after this long.most moms I work with in this situation
quit and go to formula not being interested in the effort to build back up a
faltering supply. This mom is currently producing about 14oz avg per day -
baby is currently 21wks + 2 days old and weighs 12lbs 9oz as of 3/17/10.
Clearly he needs more than 14oz. He takes an extra 9-11 oz of formula per
day.
Thoughts?
Also - I have another mom who has a history of low progesterone and needed
progesterone to maintain her pregnancy. She has very low milk supply as
well as low prolactin. She has other hormonal issues - all of which I have
worked with except the low progesterone. Is there anything special I need
to know about the progesterone issue or should I just treat it as I would
any other hormonal challenge? She is very open to Domperidone. :-)
Thanks so much!
Warmly,
Jaye
