We had same thing here recently. Mother ended up weaning even the "good breast". I wonder if folks who are carriers are being treated with bleach baths and mupirocin nasal treatments to reduce the load or eliminate the bacteria?

Subject: Re: Mom with MRSA, abscess in pregnancy
Debra,
I have had several abscess cases in my 14 years, more in the last few than in the previous 10. In all but one case they started with mastitis, but the outlier was the oddest of all: she got it during pregnancy. By the time she first came to me, after the birth, she'd already been drained - during the pregnancy, mind you - for a breast abscess, which had nevertheless only gotten worse. I've never seen a more horrifying breast in my 20 years in lactation; she was oozing from several places at once in that one breast (6 or 8, if memory serves).
That one stumped me; I never could figure out how a mom could have a massive breast abscess before birth....
