Wendy asked:
"Do we need studies costing thousands of dollars to prove what is so
logical?"
This goes along with the notion that common sense is, alas, not very common
:(
For example, a client with a healthy, thriving 2month old baby called me
the other day with concerns about her milk production.
- She was convinced that her supply was faltering because her baby was very
fussy in the evenings. She was supplementing in the evenings with milk she
had pumped in the early mornings before feeding the baby.
( I explained about the witching hour, and how supplementing would actually
lower her evening production.)
- Why was she pumping in the early morning?
Because the milk was coming out so fast it was choking the baby.
(OK, that made sense, but perhaps she could gradually decrease the time she
pumped to lower her early morning rush?)
- Besides that, she was trying to build up a supply in the freezer.
Was she going back to school or work? No.
Did she anticipate any separation? No.
How much milk did she currently have stored? Over 30 ounces.
What was she planning to do with it? No idea.
Why did she think she needed to pump for storage? Because that is what other
people had told her she was supposed to do and what she had read on the
websites.
sighhhhhh
