I'm a little late to this discussion, but I just wanted to add this tidbit. I recently finished "Ina May's Guide to Breastfeeding" (published 2009). I was surprised that she recommended routine antenatal expression at 34-36 weeks under her "Breast Care During Pregnancy" section (p. 34-35) OR starting as early as 32 weeks if mother has diabetes. Maybe this comes from the teachings thirty years ago that Nikki Lee mentioned? Or maybe it's a response to the frequent formula supplementation that happens in US hospitals? I thought it was a little extreme as a blanket recommendation for prenatal care...
