Jaye Simpson posted to ask whether anyone knew of any reason why a nutritional supplement containing krill oil would be a problem for a woman who is breastfeeding. Katharine Morrison responded, and then responded again to my post on krill oil. Katharine, you didn't miss anything, you mentioned vitamin D in your response to Jaye's post, and I as a reader unfamiliar with the nutrient composition of krill oil jumped to the incorrect conclusion that vitamin D had some role in krill oil after reading this in your post:

"Wonderful stuff for a breastfeeding mom. Krill oil is a fantastic anti-inflammatory, excellent source of long chain omega 3 EFAs and phospholipids. Marine Lipid Concentrate is likely fish oil. If so, it's fine as well.

Consider sharing with her the documentation that a maternal dose of 6400 IU vitamin D per day is required to get her infant 400 IU vitamin D via her milk."

I see on re-reading it that these are two separate paragraphs and there is no connection between Vitamin D and krill oil beyond their appearance in the same Lactnet post. Since the marine fat omega-3 supplement I take is also my main dietary source of Vitamin D, I connected the two in this post as well. Sorry if I confused anyone.
