Speaking of using cell phones and writing the number on white boards in patients' rooms, I've also found that my younger mothers like to send me a text message when they need help with latch, positioning, etc. I can quickly respond and go directly to that room. It saves a lot of time not having to check voice messages! I requested a Blackberry from the hospital where I work, now I can schedule appointments and text/communicate with patients even via email much more efficiently than constantly returning to the office to field calls.
