Holly, you made the choice you thought was right, however, the DOSE in Premarin Intravaginal creme is an order of magnitude LESS than oral contraceptives, not to mention even lower than standard oral "HRT." The risk of blood clots etc are miniscule. My guess would be, at least for some of us, the stress of not enough sex is worse.
As for "nobody ever died from enough sex." I have to disagree, I certainly would. So would my husband.
And, the lack of intimate relations not only relaxes both partners, breaks down tension and allows them to communicate better, it is the BEST stress reliever I know of. Also, increasing sexual activity will actually help the body make MORE of it's own lubrication, even during peri-menopause, lactation or both.
