Groupon gets half of the amount you sell them for, so you would actually only get about 1/4 the face value of the membership, ticket, or whatever it is you would offer to the public (assuming you offered the Groupon at half the face value price for
whatever you were selling).

As a consumer, I like Groupon, but it's something to consider financially if you are the organization offering one.  It ultimately depends on what your goal is for using that kind of a service.  If your goal is getting the word out about your
organization to a technologically savvy group of individuals that you might not otherwise reach - great!  If it's to make money - that's where the financial wizards have to come in to make sure you aren't giving away too much.
