Our education team at several local hospitals (Colorado) has nipple shields
to show in class. We talk about how this is NOT something that you need for
breastfeeding and should only be given by a lactation consultant (not a
nurse, not at your baby shower, etc.). I talk about how it masks real
problems when it's used without the guidance of a lactation professional and
can cause trouble with milk production and other issues.
It's something, anyway!
