I received a query today that requires more pharmaceutical expertise
(or a more updated edition of Hale) than I have.

I have permission to post.
Mom with 4 month old is beginning treatments for rectal cancer.
Details are:

Xeloda (capecitabine is the generic term). It's a combo of 5-
fluorouracil (also known as 5FU) and leucavorin.

They will start me on 3,000 mg a day, given in two doses (morning and
evening) of 1,500 each. The regimen is to take the pill for 14
consecutive days, then a 7-day break. Supposedly 5FU (the chemo agent
in Xeloda) has a very short half-life, which is why I will take it
twice a day. The oncologist says it's out of your system in less than
1 hour and is excreted through urine.

Will she be able to continue nursing? Is there anything she should
know about timing of nursing vis a vis timing of treatments. Should
she pump during treatment so she can nurse between treatments? Etc.
not even sure what questions to ask. Any info and guidance will be
most appreciated.

Thank you,
Naomi
