Distant from the baby so a s not to spoil them, then hovering too much
during the childhood years.
I read in a Ladies Home Journal several years ago that mothers who know
they are returning to work often hold back on their bonding in anticipation
of the pain of separation from the baby during the work day.

In a similar vein, I am being told by parents that the same local
pediatrician who tells mothers they do the best for their babies by letting them
cry it out so they sleep 12 hours a night, in a row, at 8 weeks of age, also
says that they also shouldn't try to breastfeed or pump more/wean their AIM
supplemented infants off the AIM if they are going back to work in a few
months because they will probably need to use it then anyway. My other
favorite new quip was the mother who called me very upset about having to wean
herself from the pumping she did so religiously for her 6 month old, never
latching baby who was exclusively breastmilk fed, because the MD told her
that mother's milk after 6 months was, and I quote: "insignificant" to the
baby. She was made to feel she was being SELFISH, only caring about HER NEED
to give her baby her milk ( which meant nothing at all to the baby) by
spending time pumping, taking time away from the baby. So much for
evidence-based practice. The really sad thing is, mothers love these doctors...

Peace,
Judy
